Barton's Entry in

the Domesday Book

An early official record of Barton is an entry in the Domesday book, a record of the survey of England in 1086 for William the Conqueror, which records that the King held Barton’s 360 acres (146 ha) valued at £7.

A Domesday plaque 1086 - 1986, acknowledging that Barton was named in the famous Domesday Book was placed on the Shoulder of Mutton, a late 18th century Grade II listed building.
