BACK IN TRAINING PREPARING FOR THE START OF THE NEW SEASON |
Barton Ladies Hockey team made a successful start to their Staffordshire Ladies Division 3 season with a 7-2 victory over Rolls Royce. Barton fell behind initially but came back with a goal from Gill Robinson. Quickly finding their rhythm further goals followed from Sophie Manning and Sam Darby to complete the first half score line of 3-2 in front. Barton went on to dominate the second half with Rolls Royce unable to score against debutant Walsh in the Barton goal. Becky Hickman, Justine Woodcock, Robinson’s second and debutant Vicky Kendall, scored Barton’s four-goal second half spree.

Barton Hockey
Club are proud of the fact that following trials at the weekend, they
have ten junior players representing Derbyshire County Hockey. With
trials held at Belper Hockey Club on Sunday, the clubs junior players
had a resounding success, with 6 boys going through to play at Under
14’s level, Michael Parr ( keeper), Jacob Foster, Adam Foster, Jamie
Foster, Edward Foster and John Hickman. At Under 16’s level, 4 young
men progressed through to the team, Ashley Parr, Dan Bowering, Darryn
Collyer and John Naseby. Matches
are held across the Midlands region and its great to see such talent
developing for the future. All
the boys play at Barton Hockey Club in the DTZ leagues, and are a
tribute to the hard work and effort put in by the coaches at the club
and Sue Walsh at Shobnall, who brought them on from an early age. The
season starts in September and if they carry on with the success to
date we’ll soon see them in England colours.

After a summer
break Barton Hockey teams are back in training getting ready for the
start of the new season in September. Last season was very successful
for the club who run teams in the DTZ League. Whilst the club is
always on the look out for new players, there is a wealth of talent,
which allows the club to field teams in the DTZ East Division.
The club has a
men’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd team, a very successful
ladies team who finished 3rd last season and a developing
Badgers team for lads and Dads. There are a growing number of players
who represent County and Midlands Hockey squads and specialist
training / coaching is provided to aid development at all levels.
Of course it’s
not just about hockey. There is a very socially active side to the
game, with post match refreshments and hospitality provided by the
management and staff of Shobnall Leisure Club. Throughout the year
there are a number of social events planned, with both family games
and discos to bring the whole club together.
Whilst the league
is an important part of the competitive nature of the game, there are
other Tournaments and family games throughout the year, which offer
opportunities for enjoyment. Last year the club attended a Festival of
Hockey at Scarborough where a mixed team came away with the
silverware, together with tournaments at Nottingham and Burton.
Whilst being
based at Barton, all training and matches are played at Shobnall
Fields, with training every Tuesday 7-9pm and matches on Saturdays
throughout the Midlands area. The club would be more than interested
to see new players who want to enjoy a sport that’s not only growing
in popularity, but is also a great way of keeping fit for all ages.
Anyone wanting to try it out, or wanting more information should
contact Richard Gascoigne on 07798 871890 or come along on Tuesdays to
training. You’re never to old to play and the DTZ leagues are a
great way to learn, develop and enjoy the sport.
