LANDMARK CHANGING ROOMS PROJECT - PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED

Holland Sports Club in Barton under Needwood has taken a major step towards fulfilling its dream of a landmark new changing rooms building. The Club’s planning application has been approved by East Staffordshire Borough Council, paving the way for the Club to work on securing funding for this important development.

Project Committee Chairman, Derek Cropper, commented: “This is fantastic news, not least because there were no objections from any source, including residents, to the application. This means we have managed to design a new building that not only meets Holland Sports Club’s needs now and into the future, but is also in keeping with the existing environment. We worked hard to obtain the views of as many people in the village as possible regarding the proposed design, and we took all those views into consideration before submitting our planning proposal. This approach was evidently the right one to take.

This news comes hot on the heels of Barton under Needwood Parish Council generously giving a new 99 year lease on their land & Clubhouse, which was also a crucial development. The hard work is only just starting, however, as we must now seek the funding we need to make the dream into a reality.”

Holland Sports Club is well-known for its strength in a number of sports, including football, rugby, cricket, tug-of-war, tennis and netball. Junior sections are thriving throughout the Club, making it even more important that this project succeeds.

GREAT SUPPORT FOR VILLAGE SPORTS CLUB PLAN

Residents in Barton under Needwood have given their local sports club a major boost by offering their support to an ambitious project to build magnificent new changing rooms. All residents were invited to attend an exhibition at Barton Village Hall and organisers were delighted by the number of people who took the time to come. 343 villagers signed up to show their approval of the project on one day alone. Another 277 signatures were collected at the Holland Sports Club and a further 32 emails of support have been received. Ongoing exhibitions in the village Post Office, library and at the Sports Club mean the number of supporters is likely to increase still further.

Chairman of the Project Committee, Derek Cropper, commented: “The turnout from the people in the village was tremendous – far higher than we had expected. We were delighted to hear so many supportive comments from the people we spoke to and from those who have taken the trouble to email me. It is crucial to the project’s success that it has the village’s support, so to gather the signatures of over 650 supporters within just a few days is incredibly pleasing. I’d like to thank all the people who took the trouble to come and see us and I hope that we can make this vision into a reality. We go into the planning and funding phases of the project in great spirits thanks to the people of Barton.”

Holland Sports Club in Barton-under-Needwood was formed in 1965, and is seeing more and more participants playing a variety of sports at the club. The new changing room facility would replace the current, dated structure. Holland Sports Club will shortly be submitting applications both for funding and for planning.

Two of Holland Sports Club’s younger members learn about the new changing rooms from Project Chairman, Derek Cropper during the recent exhibition.

VILLAGE SPORTS CLUB UNVEILS AMBITIOUS CHANGING ROOMS PLAN

An architect’s drawing of how Holland Sports Club’s new changing rooms may look

Holland Sports Club in Barton-under-Needwood has revealed plans to complete the largest and most ambitious project it has ever undertaken. The Club is seeing more and more participants playing a variety of sports at the club and has now set out its vision for a magnificent new changing room facility to replace the current, dated structure.

This project will help develop Holland Sports Club as a focal point for the village, encouraging youngsters to direct their energies productively and providing villagers of all ages with a sports club of which they can be proud.

“Barton under Needwood is a fine village with a unique identity – and a wonderful place to live,” says Derek Cropper, who is chairing the Project committee. “The new changing rooms building at the Holland Sports Club will only add to the attraction of the village.”

Already a much-respected sports club in the area, the new changing rooms will only enhance Holland Sports Club’s reputation and make it a focal point for amateur sport in the region.

The village’s reputation for sporting success is well-founded and all the individual sports clubs at the Holland Sports Club – football, rugby, cricket, tug-of-war, hockey, tennis and netball – are aiming high in their respective leagues. The Club is attracting more and more of the village’s youngsters, with numbers playing football and cricket, for example, approaching 200 for each sport.

The new changing rooms will be housed in an impressive and attractive building that will be fully in sympathy with its surroundings. It will have eight purpose-designed changing rooms, each with its own showering and toilet facilities. They are designed to be used by any sports teams. There will be umpires/referees’ rooms and disabled access. These changing rooms would be a landmark development for the village and unsurpassed among sports clubs in the area.

A New Landmark For Our Village

Dear resident

As a fellow resident in our village, I am very excited to tell you about a new project at Holland Sports Club. The Club has set out to complete the most ambitious project it has ever undertaken – the Changing Rooms Project - and I believe it is important that we keep you, our fellow Barton residents, informed of developments.

It’s early stages yet, although a committee of local people has been working on the project for quite some time already. We have been consulting with funding bodies and architects among others to see if the project is feasible. We believe that it is, and we will be applying for both funding and planning permission shortly.

This project is designed to benefit all those in Barton under Needwood who play sport, watch sport or take an interest in the local community.

It will help develop Holland Sports Club as a focal point for the village, encouraging youngsters to direct their energies productively and providing villagers of all ages with a sports club of which they can be proud.

The village’s reputation for sporting success is well-founded and all the individual sports clubs at the Holland Sports Club – football, rugby, cricket, tug-of-war, tennis and netball – are aiming high in their respective leagues.

The Club is attracting more and more of the village’s youngsters, with numbers playing football and cricket, for example, approaching 200 for each sport.

You can see from the images contained in this leaflet how the new building may look. It will have eight purpose designed changing rooms, intended to be used by any sports teams.

Your support

The Project committee is determined that this new facility will be a source of pride as well as a real benefit to the village. Our potential funding partners are also eager to know that it is a project supported by you, the people of Barton.

We would therefore be grateful if you would signify your support by simply emailing d_cropper@sky.com with your name and address. Please put ‘HSC Changing Room Project’ in the subject line. You can also email me with any comments or suggestions – they are more than welcome and each one will be addressed by the Project committee.

Alternatively, there will be a display all about the project in the Village Hall on Saturday 13 June from 9am to 3pm.

Please come along to find out more. You can sign up to show your support there too, as well as being able to leave a comment if you wish or talk to project representatives who will be in attendance. I hope to see you there.

With warm regards

Derek Cropper
