The 9th Barton Beer Festival is set for Saturday 7th June, at the

The Royal British Legion No. 1 Group are holding their annual parade and service on 15 June 2008. The parade will form up at the John Taylor High School in Dunstall Road ready to march off at 2:25 pm. The parade will be led by the Cannock Pipe Band and will follow a different route. The parade will commence at Dunstall Road, left into Main Street, right into Efflinch Lane, right into Short Lane, right into St James Road, right into Church Lane, left into Main Street past the War Memorial to Saint James Church for their service at 3:00 pm. After the service the parade will form up in Church Lane for the march back to John Taylor High School via Main Street and Dunstall Road with a saluting base at the village War Memorial. Chaplain:The Revd. Prebendary Tony Wood RD All members of the congregation are warmly invited to join the Royal British Legion for light refreshments at the Barton Bowls Club in Dunstall Road immediately after the march past and the parade dismissed at the John Taylor High School. |

Saturday 21st June 2008 sees the return of the Scouts
Car Wash from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon prompt at the Shoulder of Mutton
Car Park.
So bring along your dirty cars and have them cleaned by the enthusiastic band of Scouts who greatly appreciate your support. |

Barton’s Open Gardens is being held on 21st & 22nd June 2008. There are a number of gardens open on the Saturday and Sunday. This years Open Gardens celebrates the 475 years that Barton Church has been serving the community all the 475 celebration wheelbarrows will be planted for the weekend. There is a Champagne Gala Evening at 7:30 pm on Friday 20th June to launch the Weekend Event. The Chicago Teddy Bear Jazz Band returns by popular demand. There is a Grand Draw raffle which will be drawn on Presentation Evening. There is the Scarecrow Festival (which is in it's 9th year). There are the usual 3 sections:- Households, Businesses and Children's Organisations which are judged on Saturday morning 16th June. Entry forms from the Post Office. There are the usual Teddy Bear rides: Bungee Jump off the Tower, Sky Rocket up to the top of the Tower to hit a gong, and balancing on a High Wire across the churchyard. Teddies will be issued with passports this year that will be stamped as they go on the rides. Naturally, they will also get their stickers to say that they have been bold and brave as usual! Teddy Bears will be screened for security this year! All the funds are being raised for the Childrens Society, the Donna Louise Trust, Children of the Andes and the Parish Church.

Barton Music and Art Festival in the Parish Church are
staging an Art Exhibition by Local Artists on Saturdays and Sundays
from 21st June to 6th July from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Admission FREE. |

Monday 30th June sees the return of Barton's British Red Cross Society's Annual Garden Party Evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Old Vicarage, Church Lane. There will be a host of stalls including a plant stall, a cake stall, tombolas, bric-a-brac and books as well as the usual raffle. The organisers would like to thank the new owners of the Old Vicarage, Mr & Mrs Hearn, for continuing a long village tradition of playing hosts to the Red Cross event in their garden. They would also like to thank those who have donated prizes to the raffle. There is an entry fee of 50p which includes your cup of coffee.
