Meeting in the Village Hall on Monday July 20th. 2009

Present :  Tony Wood (Chair), David Sherratt, Peter Jepson, Arthur Kennedy, Vic Trigwell, Parish Clerk,

 Discussions

 Rules of Burial Ground.

These should be signed and accepted by all purchasing grave space. The rules should also be signed by those wishing  to inter ashes before  purchasing space.

Funeral Directors and Monumentalists to be made aware of this ruling.

 The Regulations re Burial Ashes.

To ensure more effective use of the new area now being provide for ashes. - It is proposed by the Committee that  cremation stones should be eighteen inches square and flat with ground to facilitate mowing. A single flower container could be included.

The Committee are conscious that is quite a change from the revised policy of four years ago.

 Safety of gravestones

Basically gravestones should be safe if a person puts weight on them, e.g. to get up after kneeling to arrange flowers.

Each gravestone  should be tested for this once a year.

Keith Ridgeway has supplied a list of gravestones he thinks could need attention.

Any work on the gravestones is the responsibility of the  family.

The Chairman and Shaun in the first place to assess the safety of  the stones listed by Keith. If necessary to lay stone down and attach information for the family.

 Space available

In the area now being used 25 double spaces remain

On the side near Collinson  Park – possibly 6 double spaces

If the unconsecrated space is used – there are 60 spaces which it is assumed could be dug double depth as other graves in that section of the Churchyard.

These graves would be blessed by the priest /minister at their discretion before use.

Together at the present rate of  use this could proved a facility for up to  ten years.

The new area for the burial of ashes has been blessed.

 New cemetery

Still to be considered. If the unconsecrated space was used this makes the matter less urgent. This would give more time for a decision to be made about a possible graveyard east of the village

Other considerations will be made.
