One of Staffordshire’s
rural villages is Barton-under-Needwood. Originally a small farming
community but has developed during the latter half of the 20th
century into a large village with a population circa 5,000. The
village is situated in the English Midlands, lying on slightly rising
ground in the Vale of the River Trent on the eastern boundary of
Staffordshire and the western region of the National Forest.
Barton’s location is 119 miles (192 km) from London and 25 miles (40
km) north of Birmingham and 15 miles (24 km) south of Derby straddling
the B5016 road. The River Trent and the Trent & Mersey canal are
to the east of the village. Access by road is via the M1/M6 motorways
and the A38 trunk road. Rail travellers may reach
Barton-under-Needwood via the stations at Burton on Trent or Lichfield.
The nearest airports are East Midlands and Birmingham International.
