Issue 3.1
There are not enough activities for teenagers in Barton – residents suggest a consultation exercise with teenagers

The following issues were raised at a consultation meeting with 6th form pupils at John Taylor School on 8th March. 

meetings held with a number of 6th formers from John Taylor School on 8th March

further meeting held on 26th April to discuss progress and to receive results of survey carried out by pupils.  Results being written up and used for discussions with bus operators, with the Youth Service and for an Awards for All bid.

Issue 3.2
There are no facilities for young people to socialise in, a community café was proposed.

Search done for suitable premises in the village, none currently empty and on the market.

 

 

 

 

 

Issue 3.3
There was nowhere to play football on an informal basis.

Discussed with ESBC Sports Development Team Leader, Ray Ashley and identified what the current provision is and additional activities that could take place.  No informal space identified but a number of football teams, training opportunities identified.

Hold an ‘activities promotion Week/Month in Barton to promote all that is on offer sports and leisure wise to young people (a similar exercise was run by sports development previously in SRB wards and could be co-ordinated by ESBC’s sports development Ray Ashley, John Taylors Head of PE (Vince Evans) Youth and Communities Sarah Shipton and ESBC’s (Jeff Marlow) could utilise Sports for All grant as well as Wasp monies

There was a need to develop a relationship with Holland Sports Club

There was a need for a youth club

Discussed with Sarah Shipton of Youth and Community

Meeting with Sarah Shipton on 23rd May to discuss use of existing Youth Club

 There was a desire to improve links with John Taylor School and to extend the times at which the centre was open, though some additional funding for staff resources would be needed.  The centre wanted to support non competitive sport opportunities.

Investigate possible sources of external funding

Mitch Allensley Economic Development Officer has produced a paper outlining options

Submitting an Awards for All bid through the school to support sport/social/community activity.  Maximum grant is £5,000 and decision will take 4 months.
